PROVIDENCE – Suzanne Fogarty has been appointed the 16th head of the Lincoln School, an independent college preparatory school for girls, effective July 1, 2014.

According to a release, the head of school search committee looked for: “a leader with visionary programmatic experience, energy and a spirit aligned with the school’s mission; an experienced administrator who fosters excellence and engagement within the school community; an excellent communicator to develop relationships and promote Lincoln both internally and externally; a person with experience and dedication to grow the resources of our school; and at the core, an educator who loves to help young women grow and succeed.”

Fogarty “embodies all these qualities and more,” according to the Lincoln School. Fogarty is currently upper school director at the Brooklyn-based Berkeley Carroll School and prior to that, she held positions in New York at St. Ann’s and The Brearley School.

The Lincoln School said Fogarty’s delayed start date is due to some “key curricular projects” at the Berkeley Carroll School that precludes her availability until summer 2014.

Anne Sullivan, currently head of school at the School of the Holy Child in Rye, N.Y., will serve as interim head from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014, when Fogarty assumes the position.

Both women will head to the Lincoln School campus in the spring to meet with faculty, staff, students, parents and trustees to plan out the school’s future.

“I am honored and excited to join the Lincoln School community. My visits in February and March confirmed what I already knew about the school: Lincoln is a very special place,” said Fogarty in prepared remarks.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundation that Julia Eells has established in her tenure as head of school,” said Fogarty, adding: “In the interim, I look forward to working with Ann Sullivan to ensure a smooth transition to the headship in July 2014.”
