NEW SHOREHAM – Block Island has one of the most expensive zip codes in the country, with the median home price at $1,146,042, according to Forbes.com.
Block Island, with its 02807 zip code, came in at No. 374 on the list. It was the only Rhode Island zip code to earn a mention.
To compile its list of America’s most expensive zip codes, Forbes looked at Altos Research’s median home price data for 29,500 zip codes, which covers 95 percent of the U.S. population. Forbes then broke down the list to find the top 500 most expensive.
No. 1 on the list was Atherton, Calif., where the median price of a home in the 94027 was $10,564,038. Homes in Atherton, where Facebook Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Sandberg lives, sell in less than four months, Forbes said.
California zip codes dominated the list. Northern California held three of the top 10 spots, and six of the top 20. New York held two of the top 10 zips.
