WESTERLY – The Ocean House hotel, along with its Ocean House Cottage Collection, in the Watch Hill section are the only hotels in Rhode Island to receive Forbes’ highest rating of five stars in its 2017 Travel Guide.

Forbes, which released its annual Star Ratings this week, said the Ocean House properties were among only 175 hotels across the globe to receive the highest ratings.

“This year’s Star-Rated properties – the largest and most global group in the company’s history – achieved an impeccable standard of excellence in hospitality, underscoring our overall mission of positively contributing to the international tourism industry as well as the individual hotel experience,” Gerard J. Inzerillo, CEO of Forbes Travel Guide, said in a statement. “We are excited to recognize the 2017 Star Rating recipients, an exceptional collection of hotels, restaurants and spas with a strong culture of service.”

In addition, the Ocean House’s restaurant, Seasons, and its spa, OH! Spa, also received five-star ratings. There were 62 five-star restaurants and 56 five-star spas.

Receiving four stars were the Weekapaug Inn in Westerly and Castle Hill Inn in Newport.

The Castle Hill Inn’s Dining Room received four stars in the restaurant category, as did the Spiced Pear, which is in The Chanler at Cliff Walk. A total of 478 hotels around the world received four-star ratings.

There were 176 four-star restaurants.

Forbes said its team of professional inspectors check into and check out every property it rates regularly, evaluating more than 500 criteria to determine a Star Rating to establish a global benchmark for luxury travel.
