PROVIDENCE – Forbes has released its list of the richest person in each of the country’s 50 largest cities, and Providence Equity Partners’ Jonathan Nelson captured the No. 1 spot for Providence with a net worth of $2 billion.
Nelson, 59, is the CEO of the private equity investment firm. His wealth was described by Forbes as “self-made” and “private equity.” But Nelson’s money pales in comparison to Bill Gates’ fortune, which, at $77.2 billion, makes him the richest person in Seattle, and richest on the list, according to Forbes.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also made the list, for his $42.6 billion fortune in the San Jose, Calif., area. At 31, he is the youngest person included, according to Forbes, which said the average age of those on the list is 70.
The poorest rich person on the list? Hartford, Conn.’s, Mark Bertolini, the CEO of Aetna, with wealth of $180 million.
