(Updated 10:24 a.m.) PROVIDENCE – GTECH has appointed Michael Chambrello as CEO of its North America Lottery, effective March 23.
Chambrello, a former GTECH executive, will report to GTECH S.p.A. CEO Marco Sala. He will oversee development and delivery of all lottery technology solutions globally for the company as well as the strategic development and management of the lottery business in the U.S. and Canada. Chambrello also will be responsible for the global instant ticket printing business.
“Mike is an accomplished gaming industry leader with a deep understanding of the lottery industry,” Sala said in a statement.
“A true lottery pioneer, Mike joined GTECH at a time when the U.S. lottery industry was rapidly expanding and was a key contributor to our growth. Our relationship has grown over time as he had roles of being a partner, vendor and respected competitor. His unique experience and insight, as well as his understanding of our organization, will help us to seamlessly transition to new leadership and partner with our customers to navigate the many opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”
This is the latest management change announced by GTECH. Last week, the company announced that Jaymin B. Patel, president and CEO of GTECH Americas, was leaving to become president and CEO of Brightstar Corp., a global specialized wireless distributor.
Chambrello will take over many of the duties overseen by Patel, according to a company spokeswoman, who said the organization is being restructured in anticipation of the acquisition of International Game Technology.
Chambrello most recently served as CEO of Scientific Games Corp., at which he had overall responsibility for managing Scientific Games’ day-to-day worldwide activities. Previous to that, he was Scientific Games’ president and chief operating officer. He left Scientific Games in 2013.
Until 1998, Chambrello worked at GTECH, where he spent 17 years with the company. While at GTECH, he served as president of GTECH Corp. and executive vice president of GTECH Holdings Corp. He has also served as president and CEO of Environmental Systems Products Holdings, and as CEO of Transmedia Asia Pacific, Inc. and Transmedia Europe Inc.
Chambrello received a bachelor’s of science in economics from Southern Connecticut State University and attended graduate school at the American University Kogod College of Business in Washington, D.C.
