Former N.Y. Fed No. 2 joins Citizens BOD

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Financial Group Inc. last week tapped a former executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to serve on its board of directors, expanding its total from 12 to 13 directors.
Christine M. Cummings, former first vice president and chief operating officer, retired from the New York Fed in June. She was the second-highest ranking officer, a member of the management committee and an alternate voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, which is the controlling body that oversees the central bank’s money policies.
“We are pleased to welcome Christine to the Citizens board following her distinguished career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York,” said Bruce Van Saun, Citizens chairman and CEO, in a statement. “Christine has a broad background in risk management, payments, technology, monetary policy and bank supervision. She brings a valuable perspective, and we look forward to having the benefit of her counsel.”
Cumming worked at the New York Fed for more than 35 years, serving in a number of different capacities. She’s a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, an advisory board member of Neighborhood Housing Services NYC and board of trustees’ member of the Economic Club of Minnesota, where she received both her undergraduate and doctoral degrees in economics at the University of Minnesota.
Headquartered in Providence, Citizens Financial Group reported $137.3 billion in assets last quarter.
