Liotta was a professor of political science and humanities and served as executive director of the Pell Center from May 2004 until August 2010.
“During Liotta’s tenure as executive director of Slave Regina’s Pell Center…he produced high caliber programs that were both timely and relevant,” Jane Gerety, president of Salve Regina, said in a statement. “He was beloved by his students, respected among colleagues and renowned internationally for his prolific writing and expertise on world issues.”
Before joining Salve Regina, Liotta was the Jerome E. Levy Chair of Economic Geography and National Security at the U.S. Naval War College and an adjunct professor in comparative politics and international relations in the U.S. Military Academy’s Department of Social Sciences.
He served for two decades in the U.S. Air Force, lectured regularly at the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy and had worked in publishing world.
He was the first graduate of Providence’s Moses Brown Society of Friends Preparatory School to go on to a military academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.
