Godfrey receives preservation award for restoration efforts

PROVIDENCE – Richard Godfrey, the longtime former executive director of Rhode Island Housing, has received a Preservation Award for Community Involvement from the Providence Preservation Society.

Godfrey, who led the housing agency from 1993 to 2015, was at the helm when the agency became a strong voice for restoration of buildings, and working with developers and local organizations to create new housing in Providence, according to a news release.

During his tenure, the PPS presented several preservation awards to projects facilitated by Rhode Island Housing. They included the Adelaide Avenue Revitalization Project, the Smith Hill CDC Visions II scattered site housing project and the Slade/Garr and Earle buildings.
