WOONSOCKET – Helena B. Foulkes, CVS Pharmacy president and CVS Health Corp. executive vice president, again has been named one of the most powerful women in business by Fortune magazine, ranking 12th.
In addition to Foulkes, Fidelity Investments CEO and President Abigail Johnson is fifth on the list of 51 powerful women – a list that also features Beyoncé – the entertainer is referred to as simply “Queen Bee” by Fortune in its 19th annual ranking of active corporate executives.
Foulkes, 52, rose two spots on the list from last year.
Fortune said Foulkes led CVS Health’s retail business to new revenue heights, rising 6.2 percent to $72 billion last year, by gaining market share in total U.S. prescriptions filled.
It said that helped absorb the loss of business from its 2014 decision to stop selling tobacco, as did its 2015 purchase of Target’s pharmacies.
CVS’ total revenue in 2015 grew 10 percent to $153.3 billion, while profit rose 13 percent to $5.2 billion.
According to CVS, Foulkes has been with the company since 1992. She has held her current position since January 2014.
No. 1 on the list was Mary Barra, CEO and chairwoman of General Motors Co.
The 2016 list is compiled by Fortune editors, who consider four criteria: the size and importance of the woman’s business in the global economy, the health and direction of the business, the arc of the woman’s career (résumé and runway ahead), and social and cultural influence.
