Foundation hosing 16th annual run

NARRAGANSETT – The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation’s 16th annual Memorial Run/Walk and Family Fun Day is scheduled for Sunday, June 7.
“If Katie is looking down on us as we embark on this year’s … road race, I am sure she would truly feel blessed and overwhelmed by the way her legacy continues in this way and by the love and support that she continues to receive after all these years,” said her father, Executive Director John DeCubellis, who leads the Foundation.
DeCubellis died at age 13, along with her best friend’s mother, in October of 1999, when hit by a drunk driver.
The Foundation holds the annual road race and family day to help promote awareness about the dangers of drinking and distracted driving. This year, the nonprofit welcomes a new sponsor, Skechers, which will donate various giveaways for the participants and award the top overall three male and female winners with a pair of Skechers Performance footwear.
“Katie always exhibited a passion for community service and helping others, and would be very grateful in knowing that this event brings the community together to further those pursuits.” said DeCubellis.
The flat, certified course winds through Narragansett, welcoming runners and walkers of all skill levels, rain or shine. The event includes face painting, an inflatable bounce, free Brickley’s ice cream, pizza, hot dogs, raffles, and music.
To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships, prizes and donations. Parents John and Meg have given presentations in schools and conferences throughout the country, reaching more than 130,000 students and adults.
