Foundation program looks to help 10 nonprofits

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Foundation’s Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence is launching a new, two-year capacity-building program to help up to 10 nonprofit organizations strengthen activities in the areas of board development, fund development, and leadership development.

The INE will select up to five organizations in the environment sector and up to five in the human services sector to participate in the program which begins this October.

“The purpose [of the] program is to help these recognize nonprofits attain organization stability and financial sustainability so that they may accomplish their missions more effectively, which contributes to building a stronger Rhode Island,” said Jill Pfitzenmayer, director of the INE, in a statement.

Selected organizations will sign up for a two-year commitment where staff, directors, and board members will take part in a core program of training, peer learning, and technical assistance. Each organization will receive up to $20,000 for two years. Information sessions are being held July 11 and July 12 at The Rhode Island Foundation at One Union Station, Providence.
