Founders League to host PitchOff

PROVIDENCE – On Friday, May 2, up to 20 startups will vie for $300 in cash prizes at the Founders League PitchOff, to be held at the Founders League headquarters at 95 Chestnut St. as a special installment of the organization’s monthly FounderBar collaboration event.
A panel of mentors and experience entrepreneurs from the local startup community will offer the competitors constructive feedback on their business ideas and select the winners based on short pitches of 120 seconds or less.
All levels of experience are welcome to compete, and each contestant will be judged on a scale according to his or her experience, the Founders League said. At the last PitchOff, held in March, three competitors took home $100 each, including Charles Johnson, who in December won the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition’s Elevator Pitch Contest with his idea for a one-handed video game controller.
Melissa Withers, chief of staff for Betaspring and one of the coordinators of the PitchOff, said the event is not meant to be a serious business competition but rather an opportunity for people who are new to the FounderBar to introduce themselves and pitch their business ideas.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register as an attendee or as a PitchOff competitor, visit www.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact the Founders League at info@foundersleague.co.
The Founders League, a co-working space in downtown Providence that offers office space and entrepreneurship programming for its members, is a joint venture by the Betaspring startup accelerator, the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, Brown University and the University of Rhode Island.
