PROVIDENCE – Four Rhode Island colleges and universities are listed in an annual guidebook detailing the top schools nationwide, publishers have announced.
The same Rhode Island schools listed last year are included this year in the “Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015” – Brown University, Providence College, the University of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island School of Design.
Among the school-specific comments cited in the book are references to Providence College’s “strong Roman Catholic atmosphere,” which is said to resemble Notre Dame’s, and RISD’s identity as “the nation’s best known art and design school.”
Also mentioned are Brown’s “pass/fail option” for coursework, giving the school a “freewheeling image that students love,” and URI’s programmatic strengths in engineering, marine science, nursing and pharmacy.
Former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske compiles the information on each school annually.
The guide, which covers more than 300 schools in the U.S., Canada, Ireland and Great Britain, includes full descriptions of each school; exclusive academic, social and quality-of-life ratings, and tips from current students.
The 2015 Fiske guide is currently on sale at www.amazon.com for about $15.
