Before opening franchise:

“I spent 25 years in the medical-device industry and co-founded a medical-device company that I ran for 15 years.”

Reason for opening:

“The entrepreneurial part of me likes to start businesses. I had been toying with the concept of creating a music academy to build bands and teach kids how to do professional-level performances. I’ve been involved in music since I was a young boy, and I’ve always enjoyed working with kids. When I came across School of Rock I realized many things I had been visualizing in my music academy had already been put together.” n

“We teach life skills that go beyond music, such as confidence building, listening skills, teamwork and discipline, all skills they can take with them wherever they go in life. When we did our first show in June, seeing the students take the stage and play their hearts out made all of the hard work worth it.”

“I really buy into the concept of what we’re doing. My goal is to have three locations in the next several years and to extend into the Rhode Island market, where there are currently no Schools of Rock.”

“In our performance program, teenagers work for 15-16 weeks to put on a rock show at a major music venue. We are not teaching kids how to play an instrument; we’re teaching them how to put on a show. That’s a completely different objective. You can get music lessons anywhere, but there are few places that will prepare you from ground zero to performing in front of 300 people.”
