Free workshops offer help with entrepreneurship

TAUNTON – The South Eastern Economic Development Corp. and the Rockland Trust Community Development Corp. will hold two basic-business workshops in Fall River aimed at assisting potential and existing entrepreneurs.

Both workshops are free and will be held at the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce, 200 Pocasset St., Fall River, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

The first workshop entitled “Learn the Fundamentals in Planning, Preparing, and Financing Your Business” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free of charge to attendees. The session is designed to help potential entrepreneurs evaluate and understand the fundamentals of owning a small business. Information on how to get started, obtain financing and navigate the loan process will be presented. Attendees will also be provided with a free guide to writing a business plan and other materials.

The second workshop entitled “Understanding the Purpose of Financial Statements and How They Can Help Determine the Health of Your Business” will be held on the same day, from 1 – 4 p.m.

The workshop will help attendees understand a balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. It will also explain how a small business owner can anticipate financial needs in order to operate their business more efficiently.

The free workshops are being held in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce, Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, the Fall River Office of Economic Development and SCORE, previously known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives, a volunteer resource partner of the SBA .
