Full Channel adding classical station to its digital radio lineup

WARREN – Full Channel said it is offering WCRB Classical on channel 798 on its digital radio lineup in honor of its co-founder John Donofrio and his commitment to bringing new technologies and classical music to the area.

WCRB, a public radio station owned by Boston-based WGBH, offers commercial-free classical music 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout New England, according to Full Channel.

According to a press release, Donofrio enrolled in night school courses at the former Rhode Island Public School after returning home from the Army Air Forces in World War II.

By the late 1950s, he was working at WPFM, the first FM radio station in Providence.

As FM radio began to increase in popularity in the 1960s, John moved from WPFM to WCRB. He stayed there until his retirement from radio in the 1980s to focus on his own “startup” – Full Channel, according to the company.

Full Channel is the state’s only local, family-owned broadband provider; it provides television, Internet and digital phone service to Barrington, Warren and Bristol.
