OK, forget about the employer paying 100 percent of the premium for things like health and dental insurance. Or fronting deductible costs in the health care program so if workers need just preventive care, or are rarely sick, there’s little if any out-of-pocket expense as a product of the deductible.

What about Chicken Wing Fridays?

“Yes, sure, that’s cool, but there is really a lot more than just one thing that makes this a great place to work,” said Jeremy Girard, director of Web development for Envision Technology Advisors LLC of Providence. “It’s everything, all together, that makes this a company that really cares about creating a fun place to work.”

Other cool things about Envision, according to an employee survey, in addition to Chicken Wing Fridays, are shorter hours on Fridays over the summer; flexibility with hours and a work-from-home policy; free membership to Gold’s Gym; low-price movie tickets; and a free BJ’s Wholesale Club membership.

The company also provides support to a variety of causes, such as the Rhode Island Foster Parents Association, and routinely holds lunchtime blood drives, giving workers extended lunch periods to get to the Rhode Island Blood Center to donate. All of it adds up to making Envision a pretty special place to work.

“It’s the overall culture here and a big part of the culture is the people,” Girard said. “The people you work with make it a fun place to be.” •
