GTECH gives $86K<br> to United Way campaign

PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. contributed $86,641 to the United Way of Rhode Island as part of its launch of its annual “Live United” campaign.
GTECH’s “Live United” campaign, which ran from March 17 to 28, is part of a longstanding partnership with the UWRI. GTECH employee volunteers participated in two weeks of promotions, directing coworkers toward the goal of raising money for education, housing, and income in Rhode Island.
The money raised by GTECH employees totaled $66,641, while $20,000 was covered by a corporate sponsorship.
The United Way of Rhode Island collaborates with individuals and organizations here to help resolve community issues. Direct-service programs, volunteer efforts, fundraising, and advocacy contribute to its work to increase the accessibility of childhood education, provide critical job-skill training programs to low-income individuals, and fund safe, affordable housing.
Sandi Connors, UWRI’s executive vice president and director of strategic marketing & communications, thanked GTECH for its support.
“By addressing these basic human needs together, we help people gain the skills they need to be self-supporting,” Connors said. “Each gift to United Way of Rhode Island directly supports people through programming and advocacy; 100 percent of fundraising costs are paid by a charitable trust.”
Headquartered in Rhode Island, GTECH is “inherently aware” of the need to support local communities, said GTECH Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Public Affairs Robert K. Vincent.
“GTECH’s ‘Live United’ campaign gives our employees an easy and effective way to support the causes they believe in,” he said. “We are confident that the funds we have raised will go a long way in assisting those who need it the most.”
