GTECH signs supply agreement with Paraguayan operator

PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. has signed a five-year agreement as the exclusive supplier of lottery technology and support services to Entretenimientos Generales, the newly awarded private operator of lottery games in Asunción, Paraguay, the company announced last week.
Comisión Nacional de Juegos de Azar, the government body that provides regulatory oversight of the lottery in Paraguay, awarded the concession to Entretenimientos Generales after competitive bidding. The concession contract will run for 60 months from the projected “start-up” date of early 2014.
As the exclusive technology partner to Entretenimientos Generales over the term of its concession contract, GTECH will supply the hardware and software needed to operate the lottery central system, as well as online lottery terminals.
“Our experience working with lotteries throughout Latin America will be beneficial as we implement the private operator model in Paraguay,” said Christopher Caldwell, GTECH senior vice president of Latin America and Caribbean, in a release. “Working in partnership with Entretenimientos Generales, we hope to strengthen the Paraguayan lottery business through new game offerings, utilizing advanced technology and flexible retail solutions.”
According to the release, GTECH is already recognized as a leading provider of lottery technology and services for several customers in Latin America located in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico.
“Our partnership with GTECH enables us to plan, establish and control this lottery enterprise so that significant benefits can be derived for the gaming industry of Paraguay,” said Carlos Ramirez, general director of Entretenimientos Generales.
