Last month, the Newport Art Museum raised a record $260,000 as it celebrated its centennial with an evening of dinner and dancing.
More than 240 guests arrived at the museum’s galleries to sip cocktails, dine and listen to live music by the Mac Chrupcala Orchestra.
Gala-goers also joined in a silent auction, which contributed $82,000 to the night’s total funds raised. The top-earning item was a four-night, five-day vacation on an estate in Monaco. An additional auction item, the chance to help secure funding for the museum’s next 100 years, brought in $44,000.
“Given the number of events in Newport tonight, we feel we have the best audience any 100-year-old could ask for,” said Elizabeth A. Gold, the museum’s executive director, during her remarks at the gala. “We know you are here because you love the museum and care about its next 100 years.”
All proceeds from the event will support Newport Art Museum’s exhibitions, education, outreach and historic-preservation programs. &#8226
