The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre was recently named the recipient of a $10,000 grant by the Amgen Foundation, charitable arm of Amgen Inc. The grant will support The Gamm’s Pawtucket Literacy and Arts for Youth (PLAY) education outreach program.

“I am pleased that the Amgen Foundation is providing its support to The Gamm Theatre and its innovative educational programs,” said Tony Pankau, vice president of Amgen’s Rhode Island operations. “I commend The Gamm Theatre’s commitment to leveraging its expertise in theater to help transform a traditional literacy program into one that energizes students and strengthens their desire to learn.”

According to Steve Kidd, education director for the Gamm, the PLAY program has served more than 9,000 students through the theater’s partnership with the Pawtucket School Department.

Kidd said, “We are grateful to the Amgen Foundation for this grant, which will allow us to keep meeting the growing demand for the program in Pawtucket’s schools.” •
