Gas prices climb in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline rose 2 cents in Rhode Island, and 6 cents in Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said this week.
AAA Northeast said the possibility of production cuts in January by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries is helping to drive gas prices higher.
In Rhode Island, gas prices are averaging $2.23 per gallon, which is 1 cent above the national average.
A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was $2.07.
Regular unleaded prices range from $2.15 to $2.35 in the Ocean State, with midgrade unleaded at $2.49; premium unleaded at $2.71; and diesel, $2.51.
In Massachusetts, gas prices are averaging $2.18 per gallon, which is 4 cents below the national average for regular unleaded. A year ago, the average price in Massachusetts was $2.05.
In the Bay State, regular unleaded gas ranges in price from $2.07 to $2.49, with midgrade unleaded at $2.42; premium unleaded, $2.62; and diesel, $2.48.
