PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell 1 cent in Rhode Island, and dropped 4 cents in Massachusetts since last week, AAA Northeast said.
Gasoline prices in the Ocean State are averaging $2.06 per gallon for self-serve, regular unleaded. Prices locally are 8 cents less than a month ago. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 57 cents higher at $2.63.
The national average price – at $1.99 – is below $2 for the first time since March 2009, AAA said.
AAA said that cheaper gas prices have saved Americans more than $115 billion on gasoline so far this year – more than $550 per licensed driver. More than two-thirds of U.S. stations are already selling gas under $2 per gallon, AAA said.
Prices in Rhode Island range from $1.91 to $2.29, with midgrade unleaded at $2.37; premium unleaded, $2.51; and diesel, $2.37.
In Massachusetts, prices are averaging $2.01 per gallon for self-serve, regular unleaded. Prices are 7 cents less than a month ago. A year ago, prices were 57 cents higher at $2.58.
In the Bay State, prices range from $1.85 to $2.19, with midgrade unleaded at $2.35; premium unleaded, $2.52; and diesel, $2.42.
