Gas prices drop in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts fell 3 cents and 2 cents, respectively, from last week, according to the weekly survey by AAA Southern New England.
AAA’s price survey found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.49 per gallon in Rhode Island. Prices are 10 cents more than the national average for regular unleaded of $3.39. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 20 cents higher at $3.69.
In Rhode Island, prices for unleaded regular range from a low of $3.31 to a high of $3.70.
The average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.74 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.86 for premium unleaded and $3.87 for diesel.
In Massachusetts, AAA said self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.44 per gallon, a 2 cent drop from last week. That price is 5 cents more than the national average for self-serve unleaded gasoline at $3.39. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was 14 cents higher at $3.58.
In Massachusetts, the range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 53 cents, from a low of $3.26 to a high of $3.79.
The average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.65 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.79 for premium unleaded and $3.84 for diesel.
AAA also offered the following tip for drivers: spark plugs must be in good condition. Some will last for 100,000 miles, but they may need to be replaced more often.
