Gas prices drop in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices dropped 2 cents in Rhode Island, and 6 cents in Massachusetts, the second consecutive week of declines, AAA Northeast said.
In Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.74 per gallon. Prices are 7 cents lower than a month ago, and 3 cents less than the national average of $2.77. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.69.
Prices range from $2.59 to $2.89. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.97; premium unleaded, $3.12; and diesel, $2.95.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.67 per gallon. Locally, gasoline prices are 10 cents less than a month ago. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.63. Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.39 to $2.95. The cost of other grades of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.91; premium unleaded, $3.08; and diesel, $2.91.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip of the week: Light exterior and interior colors and tinted windows can reduce heat buildup and save on air conditioning needs.
