Gas prices hold steady in R.I., climb 5 cents in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are the same as last week, but rose 5 cents in Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.

AAA Northeast’s Dec. 5 survey of prices in Rhode Island found that self-serve, regular unleaded is holding steady at an average of $2.21 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is 2 cents above the national average of $2.19. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 9 cents lower at $2.12.
Prices for unleaded regular range from $2.04 to $2.35, with midgrade unleaded at $2.49; premium unleaded at $2.68; and diesel, $2.46.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.12 per gallon, which is 7 cents below the national average for regular unleaded. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was $2.07.
Prices for unleaded regular in the Bay State range from $1.99 to $2.39, with midgrade unleaded at $2.40; premium unleaded at $2.59; and diesel, $2.40.
