Gas prices rise in last week in both R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, unleaded regular gasoline increased in the last week in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast.
The increase in the Ocean State of 5 cents, bringing the price to $2.20, left drivers paying 2 cents below the national average of $2.22. A year ago, the price for the same grade of gas was $2.38.
Regular unleaded ranged in price from $2.06 to $2.44 per gallon Monday, according to AAA’s weekly survey. Other grades had the following average prices: midgrade unleaded, $2.45; premium unleaded, $2.64; diesel, $2.42.
Massachusetts drivers saw a 4 cent price increase from a week ago, with the price reaching $2.11 Monday. Regular unleaded in the Bay State ranged in price from $1.99 to $2.99. Other grade prices per gallon were: midgrade unleaded, $2.37; premium unleaded, $2.54; diesel, $2.43. A year ago, unleaded regular was averaging $2.34 per gallon.
