Gelber named First Marblehead president

BOSTON – First Marblehead Corp. has named Seth Gelber president of the firm, succeeding Daniel Meyers, who will continue as chairman of the board and CEO, according to the company.

The 34-year-old Gelber has been chief operating officer since August 2012 and was managing director of the company since 2008. He joined the capital markets group of First Marblehead in 2001.

"Seth Gelber has grown into this role through a dozen years of hard work," said Meyers. "He has shown a keen interest in not just management, but a granular understanding of all parts of this business. He is sharp as well as demanding, and we look forward to his further efforts helping us navigate our challenges and guide our growth."

First Marblehead, a Boston-based student loan firm, has been the parent company of North Providence-based Union Federal Savings Bank since 2006.
