Gould publishes study on wound recovery

WARWICK – Kent Hospital’s Dr. Lisa Gould recently published a study in Journal of the American College of Surgeons that looked at innovative treatment for skin graft wounds.

Gould, who is medical director of the Wound Recovery and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Kent, focused on noncontact, low-frequency ultrasound combined with standard care. Her finding: All patients with the combined therapy fully healed by four weeks, compared to only 71 percent receiving standard care alone.

“Skin graft donor sites are notoriously painful with potential complications of delayed healing and infection,” Gould said in a statement. “In this population rapid healing is critical to reducing morbidity and cost.”
