PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo will launch a Web-based budget tool tonight to help Rhode Islanders understand her budget.
According to a news release from the governor’s office, this is the first time a Web-based tool is being launched. It will be available at 7 p.m., coinciding with her first budget presentation.

“We need all Rhode Islanders to be a part of sparking our comeback, and I am hopeful this online tool will help engage them in the process,” Raimondo said in a statement. “I am committed to fostering innovation across state government and providing greater access and transparency to the taxpayers.”
Thom Guertin, the state’s chief digital officer, said that one of Raimondo’s priorities is finding new ways to present complex information to engage constituents.
“My team led this effort in collaboration with the governor’s office and the Office of Management and Budget to give Rhode Islanders a user-friendly way to interact with the budget,” Guertin said.
With this tool, the state can publish budget and spending data dating back to 2008, allowing Rhode Islanders to search the budget and spending information through charts and data. It will be updated throughout the budget process and will be accessible from mobile devices.
It will be available at http://openbudget.ri.gov/, starting at 7 p.m.
