HOPKINGTON – GreenBytes Inc., developer of inline deduplication data storage solutions, won recognition from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its method of eliminating duplicate data from a file system.
The patent recognizes GreenBytes’ primary deduplication technology, which figures significantly in the architecture of the company’s Solidarity, HA-3000 and GB-X Series product lines.
"We invented a new, specialized data structure and search algorithm for the particular problem of deduplication, and the result is a deduplication capability that delivers the same high performance with hundreds of terabytes in a datastore as it would with just a few megabytes," said company CEO and Chief Technology Office Bob Petrocelli.
"We believe that the dcache [deduplication cache] implementation, in the storage kernel, is the seminal concept that enables primary deduplication,” Petrocelli added. “The ability to scale the performance of the parallel meta-data search as you increase the size of the storage pool is critical to maintaining low latency."
Just last month, the Hopkinton-based technology company won another patent for its method of allocating data on physical media by a file system that optimizes power consumption.
The allocation method significantly improves power efficiency and is available only in the GreenBytes globally optimized operating system found in its Solidarily, HA-3000 and GB-X Series product lines.
