Mark G. Griffin was recently appointed to the board of directors for Children’s Friend, after being selected for his corporate experience and knowledge of the Rhode Island nonprofit community. Griffin brings more than a decade of organizational and human resources experience to the board and currently serves as senior vice president for corporate human resources at CVS Caremark Corp. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology and human resources from the University of Rhode Island.

PBN: For those unfamiliar with Children’s Friend, can you tell us a little bit about the organization and what attracted you to it?
GRIFFIN: Children’s Friend was founded in 1834 and is a provider of child welfare, family support, mental health and child development services. The organization helps strengthen families by creating safe and nurturing environments for children during the crucial early years, and by helping parents gain access to the resources, education and support they need. In this way, children are given the foundation to help them live healthy and productive lives.

PBN: For more than a decade, you’ve worked in organizational and human resources fields. How do you think your professional experience will benefit the board?
GRIFFIN: I look forward to being able to advise the organization on human resources issues affecting them on a regular basis. Specifically, Children’s Friend is thriving and has previously been honored as one of the “Best Places to Work in Rhode Island,” and I want to work together to maintain that distinction among current and future employers. Also, since the organization supports children and families, from a human resources standpoint, we want to make sure it has the best possible people interacting with the children each day.

PBN: You were involved with the integration of CVS and Caremark. Can you tell us a little about why it was important to you?
GRIFFIN: It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to be part of the coming together of two best-in-class companies to form a unique new company focused on health care innovation. It has been very rewarding to be able to look at our programs and processes and optimize them to provide solutions for customers, members and clients. My experience with the CVS Caremark integration also aligns with Children’s Friend’s integration with Headstart. &#8226
