HHS awards RI substance abuse prevention, treatment grant

PROVIDENCE – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently awarded the R.I. Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals a grant for $250,000 to improve substance abuse and mental health services for Rhode Island’s youth.

The grant was announced by Governor Gina Raimondo in conjunction with the reconvening of the state’s Children’s Cabinet, which was initially set up in 1991 to help state agencies coordinate services for young people.

“All kids deserve the opportunity to make it in Rhode Island,” said Raimondo. “Young people are our future, and through this new funding and the collaborative work of my newly-reconvened Children’s Cabinet, we will improve services for families, build stronger, healthier communities, and support our state’s comeback.”
