HSRI: Enrollments climb 0.3% in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – Eighty-one more individuals, representing a 0.3 percent increase, have signed up for insurance coverage through HealthSource RI as of Dec. 10, the state’s exchange said Wednesday.
That brings the total number of enrollees for 2017 coverage to 27,555 from 27,474 the prior week. HSRI said the majority of enrollees were auto-renewed into a 2017 plan.
HSRI said 1,292 of the 27,555 individuals who have selected a plan for 2017 coverage are new to HSRI or returning after being enrolled with HSRI previously.

A total of 2,417 of the 27,555 individuals already have paid their first month’s premium.
Fifty-three percent of enrollees are female, while 47 percent are male. Fifty-one percent are 45 and older, with 34 percent between 26 and 44, 10 percent between 18 and 25, and 5 percent under 18.
Twenty-five percent are not receiving financial assistance. Another 25 percent are receiving advanced premium tax credits and 50 percent are receiving an advanced premium tax credit and cost-sharing reduction to offset out-of-pocket expenses such as co-pays and deductibles.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island is the most popular carrier with 51 percent of enrollments. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has 49 percent of enrollments.
Open enrollment began Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31.
Since open enrollment began, HealthSource RI said it has received 77,377 phone calls, as well as 364,241 page views on its website.
As for the small-business SHOP enrollment, 2,466 small employer accounts have been created as of Dec. 10, six more than last week, and 990 applications have been completed, four more than last week. Small employers can enroll at their renewal date. Medicaid-eligible individuals also can enroll throughout the year.
