HSRI: Enrollments climb 3.1%

PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI said enrollments increased 3.1 percent over the past week.
The state’s health insurance exchange said Wednesday that through Dec. 17, enrollments reached 28,404, which is 849 more than the previous reporting period through Dec. 10. The total represents those who have paid and those who have not.
The majority of the enrollees also have been auto-renewed into a 2017 plan. Another 2,099 of the 28,404 individuals are new to HSRI this year or are returning after being enrolled with HSRI previously, according to the exchange.
A total of 6,313 individuals already have paid their first month’s premium, HSRI said.

Those 55 and older comprise the plurality of enrollments at 30 percent, while 22 percent are between 45 and 54.
Enrollment is split evenly between the two carriers offered – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island at 14,288 and 14,116, respectively.
Twenty-four percent of enrollees are not receiving any financial assistance, while 25 percent are receiving advanced premium tax credits and 51 percent are receiving an advanced premium tax credit and cost-sharing reduction to offset out-of-pocket expenses such as co-pays and deductibles.
Open enrollment began Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31.
So far during the open enrollment period, HSRI said it has received 95,931 phone calls and 415,931 page views on its website, healthsourceri.com.
