HSRI: Enrollments hit 31,500

PROVIDENCE – An additional 262 individuals have been enrolled in 2016 health insurance coverage through Healthsource RI, the exchange reported this week.
The latest individual and family enrollment number totals 31,500, representing paid and unpaid. Nearly all of these individuals are current HSRI enrollees that were auto-renewed into a 2016 plan, Healthsource RI said.
The latest enrollment data is for the period ending Dec. 5. Open enrollment, which began Nov. 1, continues through Jan. 31.
HSRI said 1,592 individuals picked a plan for coverage next year, and either are new to the exchange or returning after being enrolled with the exchange at a prior point.
Neighborhood Health Plan continues to be the most popular among the three carrier choices, with 53 percent of enrollments, or 16,674. Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island follows with 43 percent of enrollments, or 13,709, and UnitedHealthcare, 4 percent, or 1,117.
More than half of enrollments – 51 percent – are from those 45 and older.
In addition, 86 percent of those who have enrolled through HSRI are receiving some type of financial assistance, while only 14 percent are not.
As of Dec. 5, HSRI said 2,178 small employer accounts have been created, and 753 small employer applications have been completed; small employers can enroll at their renewal date, regardless of where that date falls in the calendar year. Medicaid-eligible individuals also may enroll throughout the year.
HSRI said 47,762 phone calls have been received since open enrollment began through Dec. 5, and healthsourceri.com has received 192,752 page views, as well as 74,187 unique visitors.
