PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI said enrollments climbed 3.2 percent over the last week, to 29,312 from 28,404.
HSRI said Wednesday that the latest enrollment figure represents paid and unpaid enrollments through Dec. 24. Nearly 19,000 have already paid their first month’s premium.
The majority of the individuals are 2016 HSRI enrollees that were auto-renewed into a 2017 plan, while 2,839 of the 29,312 individuals have selected a plan for 2017 coverage, and are new to HSRI this year or returning after being enrolled with HSRI at some point prior, according to the state’s health insurance exchange.
Most of the HSRI enrollees are female at 53 percent, while males comprise 47 percent. Those 55 and older continue to be the largest enrollment group at 30 percent, followed by 45-54-year-olds at 22 percent and 26-34-year-olds at 17 percent.
Twenty-two percent of enrollees are not receiving any financial assistance, while 26 percent are receiving advanced premium tax credits and 52 percent are receiving an advanced premium tax credit and cost-sharing reduction to offset out-of-pocket expenses such as co-pays and deductibles.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island are the two health insurance plans offered. Neighborhood has slightly more enrollments at 14,790, while BCBSRI has 14,522.
Open enrollment for individuals began Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 31.
