PROVIDENCE – The Providence and North Providence housing authorities will share $102,745 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to continue their work to end veteran homelessness.

HUD announced the grant awards on Friday, and said the money is part of more than $5 million awarded nationally to 42 local public housing authorities.
“We commend the Providence and North Providence Housing Authority for their extraordinary efforts and commitment to housing our homeless veterans,” Jim Reed, HUD New England regional administrator, said in a statement.
Local PHAs receiving funds are undertaking aggressive efforts to house veterans in an expedited manner, according to HUD.

Through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program, which works to reduce veteran homelessness because it provides funding for housing and supportive services, Providence will receive $78,745 and North Providence, $24,000.
