WASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development offices throughout the country will be closed Friday as a result of government spending cuts set in motion by the federal sequester in March, HUD announced Monday.
The June closing will be one of seven furlough days for the department that began in May and will last through August, all planned around weekends or holidays to lessen the impact. The department’s offices will reopen next Monday.
The department’s sole Rhode Island office is located at 121 South Main St. in Providence. The nearest other offices are in Boston, Hartford, Conn., and Manchester, N.H.
