Hackathon planned for Providence, Middletown

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island civic hackers are invited to a “hackathon” this weekend to create a “Maker Map” to be presented this month at the National Maker Faire in Washington, D.C.
According to information about the event, the public is invited to the event – one does not need to be a software programmer to attend. Anyone with leadership, design, programming and civic research skills is invited.
The event will launch at the Statehouse rotunda on June 6 at 10 a.m. with invited speakers from government and the private sector. There, design, coding and non-coding civic activities will be held.

Activities in Providence will conclude at 2 p.m. that day; teams then will move to Tech Plaza 4, 88 Silva Lane, in Middletown, where the hackathon will continue at 3 p.m. They will wrap up activities there by noon on June 7.

This is the first dual-city Rhode Island Hackathon and is being held as part of the National Day of Civic Hacking.
The “Maker Map” will visualize the Rhode Island network of “makers.” That’s the coding software challenge facing the hackers.
