Hartford named policy director for Chafee

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee announced last week that Steven T. Hartford has been named director of policy for the office of the governor.
Hartford, who previously served as special adviser for policy and legislative affairs, replaces Kelly Mahoney, who has taken a job with gubernatorial candidate Clay Pell.
Hartford, a graduate of Fairfield University, received his J.D., cum laude, from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Prior to taking over the duties of Westerly’s town manager from 2009-2013, he was the town solicitor, 1996-98, 2000-02 and 2004-09.
He also served as board chairman of the federal Wyatt Detention Facility between 2011 and 2013. •
