Hasbro Children’s Hospital recognizes five staffers as Brite Lites

PROVIDENCE – Hasbro Children’s Hospital recently honored five hospital employees as the hospital’s 2015 Brite Lites. The employee recognition program, now in its 13th year, singles out some of the many hospital employees who provide outstanding care to patients. This year, more than 75 employees were nominated by patients and their families for the honor.

The 2015 Hasbro Children’s Hospital Brite Lites are Jeanne Deware, R.N., of North Scituate; Dr. Margaret Scheffler, of Warwick; Rona Principe, certified child life specialist, of West Warwick; Laurie Turner, R.N., of Coventry; and Katelyn Loiselle, R.N., of Chepachet.

The Brite Lites celebration is held in February to commemorate the anniversary of the official opening of Hasbro Children’s Hospital, which opened its doors on Feb. 14, 1994.

“We always strive to treat each and every child at our hospital as if he or she [is] our only patient,” said Dr. Phyllis Dennery, pediatrician-in-chief of Hasbro Children’s Hospital. “We take pride in going to extraordinary lengths to make a patient feel special and cared for while also comforting their families. No act of kindness is ever too small to make a difference in the life of a child.”

Those employees who best exemplify the hospital’s ‘four Cs’ – caring, communication, cooperation and competence – earn the Brite Lites designation.

Through the Brite Lites program, patients and family members write a nomination letter for a staff member who has taken extra-special care of a patient or a family. The nomination letters are shared during a special ceremony, which includes many patients and families who submitted the nominations.
