Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Dunkin’ Donuts will focus this summer’s topic in their joint 4-Safety program on water safety.
“As temperatures rise and children begin school vacation, families frequently look forward to trips to the beach and spending time in a pool,” said Dr. Robyn Wing, a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Hasbro. “These are great activities, but they also carry serious risks.
“We hope our efforts through the 4-Safety program will help children and families be better prepared for their time in the water this summer and keep them out of the emergency department.”

The Hasbro/Dunkin’ Donuts partnership works to raise awareness and educate families about ways to prevent and reduce risk of injury and live healthier safer lives. Working with the hospital, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., have committed $1 million over five years to create the 4-Safety program.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger. And for every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.
“With more than 400 miles of coastline, Rhode Island offers ample opportunity to enjoy the water,” said Wing. “We just want everyone to remain vigilant in keeping our youngest community members safe.”
Joe Prazeres, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee, said he hopes local residents will take advantage of the program.
