Hasbro named ‘best corporate citizen’ in consumer items industry

PAWTUCKET – Hasbro Inc. was named “Best Corporate Citizen” in the consumer items industry in the country, according to the 10 Best Corporate Citizens List by Industry for 2015 by Corporate Responsibility Magazine.
This is the third consecutive year that the toymaker has ranked in the top five in its category, Hasbro said, noting it jumped three spots this year.
“We are honored to be recognized as the No. 1 consumer items company in recognition of our advancements in corporate social responsibility and sustainability,” Brian Goldner, chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement.
“As we continue to reduce the environmental impact of our business, ensure the dignity of our workers, and ultimately pursue our mission of ‘Creating the World’s Best Play Experiences,’ we seek to maintain the highest possible levels of ethics and integrity for our consumers, customers, retailers, investors and employees,” Goldner said.
Rankings were announced in the following sectors: business services, consumer items, consumer staples, energy, financial, health care, information technology, materials, media and entertainment, and utilities, with the No. 1 enterprise in each category comprising the 10 Best Corporate Citizens List.
The list documents 303 data points of disclosure and performance measures from publicly available information in seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, corporate governance, finance and philanthropy. The magazine applied the same methodology used in its 100 best corporate citizens list published earlier this year to come up with the best companies by industry.
“Hasbro’s placement in this prestigious business ranking is a testament to the dedication and tremendous effort across our global organization,” Kathrin Belliveau, Hasbro’s senior vice president for global government affairs and corporate social responsibility, said.
“We deeply believe that every day is a chance to be better and will continue advancing our social and environmental performance across our key CSR focus areas, including product safety, environmental sustainability, human rights and ethical sourcing,” she said.
Entergy Corp. was ranked the best corporate citizen in the utilities category. Entergy’s Entergy Wholesale Commodities, a division of Entergy Corp., announced in October that it is selling its 583-megawatt Rhode Island State Energy Center in Johnston to Washington, D.C.-based Carlyle Power Partners for approximately $490 million.
