Hassenfeld gift funds child health institute at Brown

PROVIDENCE – A $12.5 million gift from retired Hasbro Inc. Chairman and CEO Alan Hassenfeld will create the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute at Brown University.

The institute will launch early in 2016 with a team that will build a research and evaluation unit with statistical, bioinformatic and medical expertise to conduct studies of childhood health issues, including healthy weight, nutrition, physical fitness, autism and childhood asthma.

“My greatest hope is that when we look back 10, 20, 30 years, we will have created global solutions to alleviating some of these child health conditions,” Hassenfeld, a former Brown trustee, said last week in a release announcing the funding. •
