Posted 2/20/12

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Public Health Association hosted its sixth annual Rhode Island Public Health Think Tank on Feb. 8, in partnership with the General Assembly.

Featured speakers included Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts, Sen. Juan M. Pichardo, D-Providence, Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi, D-Narragansett and Dr. Michael Fine, director of the R.I. Department of Health.

Marti Rosenberg, a program director with the Providence Plan, gave the keynote address, focused on public-health advocacy.

Discussion focused on the strategic importance of health care outcomes and savings achieved through preserving and investing in prevention efforts, rather than reducing the cost of coverage of health services. •
