PROVIDENCE – With nine and a half weeks until the March 31 deadline for open enrollment in individual and family plans through the state’s health insurance exchange, HealthSource RI on Tuesday announced a trio of new television advertisements to encourage enrollment.

HealthSource RI has been among the most successful health exchanges in the country, having exceeded its three-month enrollment target by 174 percent, and Executive Director Christine Ferguson hopes to boost the exchange’s enrollment figures further through the advertising outreach, as well as a series of public enrollment events scheduled through early March.

Produced by NAIL advertising agency in Providence, the 30-second advertisements – two in English and one in Spanish – were shot in a gymnasium and feature people holding up signs showing pre-existing conditions that precluded individuals from obtaining health insurance before the Affordable Care Act, including diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.

Other signs suggest that Rhode Islanders who purchased health insurance through the exchange have benefited from lower monthly premiums, an increased variety of available workplace health plans, and improved access to insurance plans after previously being unable to secure health insurance.

The three advertisements can be viewed on YouTube via the following links:

HealthSource RI spokeswoman Dara Chadwick confirmed that social media outreach will also be included as part of the exchange’s new public marketing campaign.

The planned series of drop-in enrollment events will be held from Jan. 23 to March 4 in communities throughout the state. HealthSource RI advised individuals interested in attending an enrollment event to bring last year’s tax form or tax information, Social Security numbers, immigration documentation, Employer Identification Numbers, information about any health insurance currently enrolled for, and the names of any current doctors the individual wishes to keep.
