EAST PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI on May 2 will reopen its walk-in center and expand its hours of operation at its contact center.

The walk-in center is on the second floor of the new contact center location at 401 Wampanoag Trail.
The state’s health benefits exchange said the contact center will expand its hours of operation to Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for both walk-in and call-in assistance to customers.
“HealthSource RI customers will once again have access to in-person assistance for individual help with their accounts,” HealthSource RI Director Zachary Sherman said in a statement. “I’m very pleased we’ve been able to return this valuable service and mark it as a turning point in our ongoing efforts to improve the customer experience.”

Last August, HealthSource RI transitioned the walk-in center at its previous Providence location to a drop-off center. Customers could drop off documents and payments, and those who needed one-on-one help could make an appointment.

Earlier this year, HealthSource RI opted to engage with a new contact center vendor, Automated Health Systems, with the primary goal of improving customer service, a change that also resulted in a move to a new location in East Providence in April. HSRI previously used Optum, a division of United Health, as its vendor.
In addition to the one-on-one help to be offered, the walk-in center will offer self-service stations equipped with computers and roaming assistance.

The walk-in center is accessible by Rhode Island Public Transit Authority Route 32 bus (outbound from Kennedy Plaza toward Tripps Lane via Wampanoag Trail). Free parking also is available.

Open enrollment for coverage through HealthSource RI begins in the fall. Some Rhode Islanders who experience a “life change” may be eligible to enroll through a special enrollment period. Some examples of life changes that may qualify a person for a special enrollment period include:

  • A job loss resulting in loss of employer-sponsored health insurance;
  • A change in family makeup, such as marriage, divorce, birth, adoption or foster care placement;
  • A change in immigration status (a person must be a U.S. citizen or be lawfully present in the U.S. to buy insurance through HealthSource RI).
