PROVIDENCE – HealthSource RI is opening a temporary satellite office Monday in Warwick due to increased demand from residents in the Cranston-Warwick area, according to exchange spokeswoman Dara Chadwick.

With open enrollment for individual and family plans ending March 31, and the Providence location at 70 Royal Little Drive in high demand to handle walk-ins, HealthSource RI is opening a contact center at 250A Centerville Road off Exit 10B of Interstate 95, Chadwick said.

“We have many people from the Cranston and Warwick area [coming to the Providence center], so we wanted to make ourselves more accessible to that part of the state,” she said.

The new center’s hours will be same as those at the Providence location: Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The agency is not hiring new staff but will relocate five to 12 of its 130 staff members from the Providence office, Chadwick said.

Demand has been high at the Providence office, with 16,005 walk-ins between Oct. 1, 2013, when open enrollment opened, and Feb. 8, she said, and up to 180 people a day.

After the March 31 deadline has passed, open enrollment will not resume until sometime in the fall. Those who are income-eligible for Medicaid can enroll at any point throughout the year, and small employers are able to enroll at their regular renewal date and at any point during the year.
