BRISTOL – The Herreshoff Marine Museum has met the challenge issued by an anonymous donor and earned a $50,000 matching grant, according to the museum’s emailed newsletter.
Announced last March, the challenge sought contributions by individuals to the museum’s educational programs in 2013. Contributions received on the day of the museum’s annual holiday party helped make the match a reality, museum administrators said.
The funds will enable the museum to better support the sailing school, after-school introduction to wooden boat building for middle school students, development of stronger curricula for collaboration with Bristol-Warren schools to provide real-life experiences in science, technology, engineering and math subjects, and improving the educational content of exhibits.
Museum staff also may be expanded in education and to offer adult short courses in boat maintenance and model making.
